PITTSBURGH,PA (WWAY) -- Neither the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (2-4-3) or the Wilmington Hammerheads (4-1-2) could find the back of the net as Saturday night’s game at Chartiers Valley Stadium finished in a 0-0 draw. Neither Club could produce quality opportunities to find the game winner in the run of play.

The Riverhounds would receive their best opportunity in the first five minutes of play off a left-to-right diagonal ball. Midfielder Sammy Appiah switched the point of attack to find Tommy Gray down the right flank. Gray outpaced his marker and served a dangerous cross towards the penalty spot, which found Jeremy Deighton who headed down to Chad Severs cutting to the near post. Severs redirected the bouncing ball on goal, but Hammerheads goalkeeper Brock Duckworth was in good position to parry the ball out for a corner.

The Hammerheads nearly found the game winner in the 85th minute on a counter-attack. Paul Nicholson cleaned up a loose ball at midfield and played Chris Banks in behind the Riverhounds’ defense. Banks struck a low right-footed shot on frame, but it deflected off the post and landed at the feet of Jyler Noviello. Taking a first time shot, Noviello’s left-footed shot struck the same post and away.

The Riverhounds will travel Monday for a meeting with intra-state rival the Harrisburg City Islanders (1-2-2) on Tuesday at Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg. The Keystone Derby is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The Hammerheads return to Wilmington next Saturday to host Orlando City (7-1-2) at Legion Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
