WILMINGTON -- The sewer repair project in the Bradley Creek section of New Hanover county resumed Monday. The work had been suspended because of three spills in the area. Crews caused the spills while trying to repair the pipe that runs through the Wrightsville Green community off of Greenville Loop Road. But repair crews have been cleared to resume pumping sewage through bypass lines while they insert a new liner into the old pipe. Officials say new safeguards have been put in place to prevent future spills. New Hanover County Public Information Officer Mark Boyer said, "What the county is requiring the contractors to change these new connections on the pumps where the line is connected to the pumps. We're also requiring them to man the pumps while they are in operation." Crews run the sewage through bypass lines while they insert a new liner in the old lines. The county hopes to have the entire Bradley Creek sewer project completed by the end of August.
