As for the reason of arrest-in North Carolina if there is probable cause to believe an assault has occurred between a current or former husband/wife or girlfriend/boyfriend, people who have lived in the same residence together, people who have a child in common, etc. the law makes it a MANDATORY ARREST by law enforcement. It isn't up to the locale, it is a statutory mandate, the law enforcement officer shall arrest with probable cause of assault.
So when he decides to start telling everyone how the police are in cohoots to make him look bad, remember that. And there was obviously probable cause or he would have been released by the magistrate once he got to the jail.
