Local NAACP says it backs Warren's claims of racial bias

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Local chapters of the NAACP say they back a Brunswick County Commissioner's claims he's being racially harassed.

Charles Warren says he's been harassed by sheriff's deputies and fellow commissioners Bill Sue and Scott Phillips. Sue and Phillips deny the claims.

Brunswick County NAACP president bernest hewett said he believes the minutes of County Commission meetings prove Warren's allegations.

"You can almost see what he's talking about," Hewett said. "You can see the 4-1 votes, 4-1 votes, regardless. Don't make any difference what it is. It's there, and I believe his statements are true."

Hewett said he's going to take Warren's complaint as far as he can take it. He said he's prepared to investigate whatever he needs to fight was he calls an injustice.
