Someone MAY serve up to 48 hours in jail before being released. It is not mandatory, only that a district court judge set the bond. A person who is arrested while district court is in session can go straight before the judge, have a bond set and immediately be released without ever stepping foot in jail. Beger's arrest was handled by the book.
