Seniors compete for beauty queen title

WILMINGTON -- The time to be a beauty queen doesn't have to end after the age of 25 or even 65. Thanks to the Ms. North Carolina America Pageant women 60 years old and over can still vie for the title. Contestants will be judged on interview, talent, philosophy of life and evening gown. Ms. Senior America 2000, who is now also the co-director of the pageant, says the competition can give seniors a new sense of purpose. Co-Director Judy Kelley said, "You meet friends. It's friendships and it keeps you young. It's a way of bringing people out that normally wouldn't get out and would sit at home and just watch TV." Currently there are no participants from the Wilmington area, but you can still be a contestant if you apply by August 15th. For more info visit
