Contractors rush to meet July 4 opening deadline of Verterans Park

READ MORE:

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) -- Contractors are working weekends and long days to meet a July 4 deadline for opening NC Veterans Park in Fayetteville.

City Manager Dale Iman tells The Fayetteville Observer that he's confident the deadline will be met. City officials are planning a 10 a.m. ceremony on Independence Day.

The Legislature paid for the nearly $15 million cost to develop N.C. Veterans Park, which has been planned for years. The project includes a second phase to be built later.

The park will have sculptures, fountains, plazas and monuments to honor North Carolina military veterans in all branches. The tallest structure, called the Pride and Purpose Tower, is made of stainless steel and granite rises about 35 feet.
