WASHINGTON (AP) -- The day-to-day weather may be the source of lots of small talk, but that comes at a big price.

A study released by the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO, says the annual impact of routine weather in the United States can total $485 billion.

Economist and lead study author Jeff Lazo says "it's clear that our economy isn't weatherproof." He adds in a statement that even routine changes in the weather can add up to have a substantial impact on the economy.
