STORMTRACK 3: Pattern change underway

READ MORE:

After another day of extreme heat, a pattern change is underway. Wilmington tied a 57-year-old record Thursday afternoon and hit 100 degrees. The extreme heat helped to fuel severe weather during the evening, with the National Weather Service office in Wilmington reporting a wind gust of 75 mph during the height of the storms.

An approaching cold front will slightly enhance our chance of afternoon storms through the weekend. While we still don't expect any one day to provide continuous soaking rain, more counties should see "pop-up" summertime thunderstorms. And while sunshine will still be plentiful this weekend, temperatures will cool slightly.
