More Pender County parents to get Computer Cop software

PENDER COUNTY -- More Pender County parents will soon get computer software that can help protect their kids from online predators.

Pender County commissioners have given law enforcement a $5,000 grant to buy more Computer Cop software. The software is designed to scan chats and websites, then flag certain hot-button words.

If a parent finds something questionable they can contact authorities.

Pender County Sheriff Carson Smith said, "When it comes to internet crimes, especially sexual predators on the internet, the parents are the best cops. We're asking that they know what their children are doing and we want to put this tool in their hand so they'll be able to do it more affectively."

The Pender County Sheriff's Office and local police departments should get more of the Computer Cop software in by the end of the month.
