...and good riddance. I am so tired of hearing "Chancellor DePaolo did this and Chancellor DePaulo did that." Chancellor DePaolo did nothing for UNC Wilmington that wasn't already envisioned by Dr. Leutze. He had the vision and secured funding for years to come...it was just completed under Dr. DePaolo. During her "reign" as Chancellor, she neglected to make the University a larger part of Wilmington, was not in the public eye, and was almost impossible to see around campus. UNCW needs a leader, not a manager.
Dr. DePaolo is a nice person, with a good heart, but her successes were coincidental - not due to her personally. She surrounded herself with very apt Vice Chancellors and a great assistant.
I hope that Chancellor Miller has a new and different vision for the future: I hope he sees how important UNC Wilmington is to Wilmington and builds more bridges between local companies and the great University. I hope he raises more money locally for programs other than the Athletics Department. I hope he seeks more diversity by promoting something other than discriminatory scholarships based solely upon the color of one's skin. I hope he is able to access a greater fundraising team that will enable UNCW to add more Full-time professors, builder greater buildings, and end up as the #1 in the nation in terms of greatest value.
I sincerely loved my time at UNCW and believe that it is a great University. The time for change came long ago. This alumnus is thrilled that new leadership is in place.
