FIRST ON 3: Southeastern NC gets big changes in proposed Congressional redistricting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The General Assembly has released its proposed Congressional redistricting map for North Carolina.

The Rucho-Lewis Congress 1 map would change the 7th District, which serves southeastern North Carolina. The new map cuts Robeson County in half and adds Onslow and Carteret Counties to the district, currently served by Democrat Mike McIntyre, who lives in Lumberton. The district's proposed boundary actually hugs I-95 through western Robeson County until cutting slightly east of the interstate at Lumberton.

The proposal also cuts out the parts of Cumberland, Sampson and Duplin Counties that are currently part of the 7th District.
