READ MORE:
Five Brunswick County restaurants earned low scores this week and one Wilmington eatery gets a second chance. This week's lowest score belongs to Great Wall at 1096 Sabbath Home Road outside Supply. A Brunswick County inspector says she saw workers throwing away food during the inspection and that food had no identification or receipt to prove its source as required. Five points off for containers of chicken at room temperature. Five more for pans of cooked lo mein cooling at room temperature. And five more for no sanitizer and many greasy and soiled containers, utensils and lids. Nine violations and a score of 78.5 for Great Wall. The Isles Restaurant at Ocean Isle Beach lost five points for food in a cooler that was too warm. Five more for storing chicken and soup on the floor of the walk-in freezer. Another deduction for storing dirty dishes and pans and mold buildup in the ice shoot. 83.5 the isles. To the north end of the county and the Handee Hugo's at 6170 Ocean Highway in Winnabow. Points taken for thawing raw hamburger stored above milk and mustard squeeze bottles. Flies throughout the dining room cost four points. Two points for a container of water sitting in the hand wash sink. The staff also needs to do a lot of cleaning. Handee Hugo's in Winnabow scores 84. Back to Ocean Isle Beach and Tomo Japanese. Sushi rice and containers for spices and sushi need labeling. Tofu and rice were at the wrong temperature. And cups and bowls were stacked wet. Tomo Japanese earns an 85. The staff at Yummi Yummi in Leland needs to make sure not to let food sit out too long. The inspector also said there's an ongoing problem of storing food on the floor of the walk-in freezer. The restaurant needs to be treated for roaches in back by the utensils sink. The sanitizer at the sink needed to be a stronger concentration. And several things need cleaning. An 87 for Yummi Yummi. Finally, a re-grade for Ming Tree at Independence Mall in Wilmington. It scored a 79.5 last month. This time around just a couple violations and a score of 98.
