WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Community members are rallying together after a fire that destroyed the home of a 9/11 first responder left him and his family with nothing. The home belonged to Jimmy Kadnar, a retired New York firefighter who responded to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Kadnar had just left for work Tuesday, July 5 when the fire started. His wife and their five children got out of the house safely. The fire has been ruled an accident. Monkey Joe's on Shipyard Boulevard is hosting a benefit from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will donate $3.00 from every regular admission ticket to the Kadnar family. If you'd like to donate items for the Kadnars, you can drop off at Britts Motorsports.
