Even though I have proudly supported him and voted for him, the stark reality is that moving the district Northeast makes it impossible for him unless he changes that "D" after his name to an "R."

In light of his voting record and not-so-secret friction between him and the majority of Democrats, I don't think anyone would have heartburn with him doing just that once the re-apportioning is finalized.
