JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) -- The trial for a Hubert man accused of killing his son in a drunken driving car crash last year is scheduled for this week. The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that 34-year-old James Marslender faces second-degree murder, driving while impaired, speeding and other charges in the September death of 5-year-old James Marslender II. Authorities say the boy was killed when his father's pickup truck left the road and collided with a tree near Camp Lejeune. Police said the child was improperly restrained and suffered severe head trauma. Marslender has been free on $30,000 bond since his first court appearance. He has been required to live with his mother, not consume alcohol or drugs, and abide by other restrictions, including submitting to random breath-alcohol tests.
