Henderson County residents to vote on liquor sales

READ MORE:

HENDERSONVILLE, NC (AP) -- Alcohol sales will be on the ballot
for Henderson County residents next spring.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that county commissioners
agreed unanimously Wednesday to put the issue on the ballot in May.

The decision came after commissioners initially rejected a
proposal to open a second liquor store in Hendersonville. They
reversed their position after learning details of the tax benefits.

Alcohol sales are permitted in the municipalities of
Hendersonville, Fletcher and Laurel Park, but the county has to
approve those sales.

Alcohol Beverage Control guidelines will require Henderson
County's 107,000 residents to vote separately on beer and wine
sales, liquor sales, and liquor by the drink.

The county last voted on the issue in 1955.

Only Buncombe and Clay counties in western North Carolina allow
alcohol sales in non-incorporated areas..
