Man stabbed holds suspect until police arrive

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- A man was stabbed in Carolina Beach early Monday morning after another man tried to get beer out of a refrigerator.

According to the incident report, Carolina Beach Police say they were called out to a stabbing at a home at 700 Carolina Beach Avenue South around 2:41 a.m. The officer found a Matthew Low, 28, bleeding from the back and holding down Tony Simpson, 52, who was bleeding from the face. The officer said a woman was holding a towel on Low's back to try and stop the bleeding.

The officer said when he asked Low what happened, he just kept saying, "Man, why'd you have to stab me?"

An ambulance took Low to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Low was listed in good condition Monday afternoon.

After separating the men and putting Simpson in handcuffs, the officer asked him what happened. Simpson reportedly told the officer he had gone to the house to get his beer out of the outside refrigerator, when he and Low started arguing and then fighting. Simpson said Low started choking him, so he stabbed Low to get him off of him.

The case is still under investigation.
