WILLARD, NC (WWAY) -- A little girl in Pender County had her dream come true today with a room makeover. Nine-year-old Lauren Ritterbusch has a life-threatening condition that makes it hard for her to leave her home. Today, the Make-A-Wish Foundation gave her some modern comforts to make her stay more stylish.

Lauren was all smiles when she saw her room makeover this afternoon. Her family says it made all the difference for one sick little girl.

After wishing and hoping and praying Lauren's dream came true tuesday when she saw her new room.

Lauren has a mitochondrial disorder. The disease makes it hard for her to leave the house, which is why she asked the Make-A-Wish foundation for a makeover in her room. She says she could not be happier.

"This is awesome!" said Lauren, who said her favorite part of the new room was, "All of it!"

Lauren and her three brothers all suffer from the genetic disorder that affects every organ in their bodies. Lauren's mom Jessica says having something to look forward to is a good distraction for her kids.

"As a family as a whole we went through a lot," Jessica Ritterbusch said. "All four of our children have the genetic disorder, and this kind of takes away from all the bad things that they've been going through, gives them something to really look forward to and be excited about."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation says reactions like Lauren's make all the work that goes into granting the wish worth it.

"We were able to grant her wish with new bunk beds and a desk and a dresser and all kinds of special touches specific to Lauren's desires, and she was very excited," Kristen Johnson said.

Johnson says she hopes the new room really makes Lauren happy, which is why the foundation does what it does.

"Granting wishes is so important," Johnson said. "It gives that child a sense of control in an otherwise kind of dark reality. A time when they are dealing with some many medical terms and hospital visits and doctor visits, and it gives them a chance to say, 'This is what I want!'"

As for Lauren, she says she has big plans for her new room: Sleep!

Lauren was able to pick out all her new furniture to make sure her room is just her style.
