Edwards says 'goodbye' to Rove

READ MORE:

CHAPEL HILL (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards didn't have much to say in reaction to the announcement that senior White House adviser Karl Rove was resigning. But his feelings were clear.

Edwards issued a statement saying, "Goodbye, good riddance."

Rove announced today that he will leave the White House at the end of August. He joins a lengthening line of senior officials heading for the exits in the final 1½ years of the Bush administration.

A criminal investigation put Rove under scrutiny for months during the investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's name but he was never charged with any crime. In a more recent controversy, Rove cited executive privilege in refusing to testify before Congress about the firing of U.S. attorneys.
