WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover County Commissioner Rick Catlin officially announced today he will run for the NC House of Representatives next year. WWAY reported last month Catlin plans to run for the newly-formed District 20 seat. "After a great deal of contemplation, I have made the decision to run for the North Carolina House of Representatives in hopes of continuing my service to the citizens of New Hanover County," Catlin said in a statement Monday. "I am confident that I can be a strong, effective, respected voice in the Legislature, and I will use that voice to work to insure that the unique needs and concerns of my neighbors and friends in this special part of the state are heard and are appropriately addressed." Catlin say he has already earned the endorsements of current members of the North Carolina General Assembly serving this region, including Rep. Carolyn Justice (R-Pender), Rep. Danny McComas (R-New Hanover) and Sen. Thom Goolsby (R-New Hanover). "Serving my home county and its citizens on the Board of County Commissioners has been a privilege, and I am grateful to my constituents for demonstrating their faith in me by electing me to that office," said Catlin, who was elected to a four-year term on the County Commission last year. "As your County Commissioner, I have worked to solve our unique environmental challenges ranging from air quality to water supplies for future generations, from initiating economic development plans that could open world markets to our county to developing creative solutions to protect the coastal infrastructure that makes our region special."
