SANFORD, NC (AP) - The Lowe's Home Improvement store in Sanford that was destroyed by a tornado earlier this year is on an even faster track to reopen than officials thought.
The Sanford Herald reported that the 100,000-square-foot store will open Sept. 8.
Officials said at a city meeting last week that the store would reopen Sept. 15. But company officials have changed that, saying earlier this week the store will reopen Sept. 8. The store employs about 160 people.
Lowe's officials plan a big bash when the store reopens, starting with a breakfast with city and community leaders and including a charitable and education foundation announcement.
The store was destroyed April 16 when deadly tornadoes crossed North Carolina, killing two dozen people.
