GASTONIA, NC (AP) -- Gastonia police have arrested a man they say tried to use a boy to shield the man from officers and their Taser. Police say 32-year-old Terry Montgomery was pulled over last weekend at a license checkpoint. They say Montgomery punched two officers and ran from the checkpoint. They found him at the home of a 90-year-old woman. Officers say when they came after Montgomery, he grabbed an 11-year-old boy in the home to try to shield himself. The boy was hit by one of the prongs but there was no electric shock and the child was not hurt. Montgomery faces charges that include second-degree kidnapping and possession of cocaine. It was unclear if he has an attorney. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
