Former Burlington cop pleads guilty to sex offense

GRAHAM, NC (AP) -- A former Burlington police officer has
pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a teen.

The Times-News of Burlington reported 30-year-old William
Matthew Hill of Graham was sentenced to five
months in jail and ordered to register as a sex offender. Hill also
must serve five years of probation.

He was arrested in February 2010 on two counts of statutory rape
and two counts of statutory sex offense.

Police say Hill was involved with a 14-year-old girl in the
Burlington police Explorer program in April 2009.

He resigned in July 2009 following a State Bureau of
Investigation and police department review. Hill had been with the
police department since 2008.

The investigation started after the girl's mother said she found
a text message from Hill to her daughter.
