One writer wrote about Horry County. There are enormous problems in Horry County fire. There are 7 volunteer rescue squads still in operation in Horry and they will not be taken over by Horry County. The fire took over the EMS, both of which were county owned and operated. Now years later, many Horry County fire stations do not have any volunteers. They are not prepared to handle any fire emerg4ency. They have to send 5, 6, or 7 fire stations to get enough people to fight a fire and by that time, it has already burned down. Just go to the Horry County website and click on the fire study that was done. Look at the recent wildfire, over 20,000 acres, 69 homes lost, 100 damaged. Now let me say one very important thing: Horry has some of the most dedicated firefighters anywhere! I applaud their dedication and work ethic. Now that being said, their planning and resourse management is as bad as anywhere in the country. I pray a major hurricane does not hit Myrtle Beach!
