Sewage spill in Carolina Beach leads to fishkill

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- The Town of Carolina Beach says there was a sewage spill yesterday. The town says 72,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled from a ruptured force main at Lift Station #1 at 103 Raleigh Ave.

The untreated wastewater spilled into drainage lines leading to Carolina Beach Lake and Myrtle Grove Sound at the Carolina Beach Yacht Basin. The discharge resulted in a minor fish kill of juvenile fish and minnows in the canal going to Carolina Beach Lake.

The Division of Water Quality was notified of the event on August 12, 2011 and is reviewing the matter. For information contact the Town of Carolina Beach, Utility Department (910) 458-8291
