The coastline is natural, retention ponds are man made.Most places put them away from houses.
That's why many commercial ones are fenced in.
Why do you think in ground pools require a fence around them?
Putting a retention pond intentionally behind a house to make it seem like waterfront property-an accident waiting to happen.
