It's pretty simple folks....

...if you don't own the land, you don't have a right to erect ANYTHING.

I love my country, I love the National Ensign, and I appreciate the sentiment toward veterans. That said, you know that if the flag remains, before long a Pirate or Wolfpack flag will show up, then a state flag, a Confederate battle flag, and before long it will start to resemble a disorganized version of that plaza in front of the U.N.

Why couldn't the Anonymous Patriots simply obtain permission to erect the flag?

The island is starting to resemble a landfill as it is because the reserve still allows unlimited access without the necessary infrastructure to support it. It is basically an unregulated, unofficial public park and the island is slowly being destroyed because of it.
