WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Children who attend Williston Middle School in Wilmington will soon have a leg up to succeed thanks to the Wilmington Rotary Club. The Rotary Club held a luncheon today to kick off the Williston Legacy Project. Rotary is partnering with the school to provide technology and literacy programs to help students. Not only that, rotary will provide speakers, mentors, tutors and volunteers for school events and academic clubs. "I got goosebumps," Williston principal Sherry Veasey said. "This is a big thing for us. We're just elated and appreciative that they decided to consider us." The club says it chose williston because it had the greatest needs and greatest potential for success. "We want to help provide those opportunities they wouldn't have a chance to participate in otherwise, or at least enhance those so they will feel good about going to school, where they'll want to learn, we want everybody to want to come to Williston," Rotary's Williston project co-chari Melissa Hight said. This is a long-term partnership between the Rotary Club and Williston Middle School. After lunch Rotarians toured the school and met with faculty and staff.
