Wastewater spill at Carolina Beach

Carolina Beach -- The Town of Carolina Beach had a wastewater spill on August 27th of an undetermined amount from various locations throughout the wastewater collection system in Carolina Beach. The spill is still occurring and the total amount will be released when it can be determined. The untreated wastewater spilled into Myrtle Grove Sound and possibly the Carolina Beach Lake. The discharge was a result of heavy rain and flooding that was experienced throughout the area caused by hurricane Irene.

The Division of Water Quality was notified of the event on August 27, 2011 and is reviewing the matter. For information contact the Town of Carolina Beach, Utility Department (910) 458-8291.
