US marshals raid NC food business after FDA check

READ MORE:

DURHAM, NC (AP) -- US marshals have seized food from a Durham warehouse that supplies Chinese, Mexican and Indian food to restaurants after inspectors found problems with pests.

The Herald Sun of Durham reported Tuesday that the US Food and Drug Administration inspected Chan's Food Service this month and found a widespread rodent infestation at the company's warehouse.

FDA spokeswoman Pat El-Hinnawy says the Durham raid is one of just three or four food seizures by US marshals in the United States in the past year. She says the FDA's regulatory authority applies only to food sold in interstate commerce, with states investigating other food safety issues.

Anthony Chan manages the business and says he's working with the FDA. He wouldn't say which restaurants he supplies.
