DMV closes Robeson County office amid fraud charge

READ MORE:

ST. PAULS, NC (AP) -- A North Carolina license plate agency is closed after three workers were charged with taking money for issuing vehicle titles without proper documents.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Friday the three women face hundreds of counts of fraud at the Robeson County office. Division of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Marge Howell said she did not know how much the women are accused of pocketing or how long the practice had gone on.

The license plate agency has operated under contract with the town of St. Pauls. The DMV said the office conducted about 10,000 transactions last year. About 18,000 transactions had been recorded in the first seven months of this year.

Those charged are 59-year-old Edna Muse of St. Pauls, 33-year-old Cynthia Taylor, and 52-year-old Marlene Renvill of Raeford.
