Sheriff’s deputy resigns after DWI arrest
by Vicky Eckenrode
A deputy with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office resigned Tuesday after he was arrested on a drunk driving charge over the Labor Day weekend, a sheriff’s office spokesman said Wednesday.
The N.C. Highway Patrol stopped Lt. Lawrence Miller, 44, at a checkpoint at the Snow’s Cut Bridge Saturday night and was charged him with DWI, authorities said.
Miller, who worked with the sheriff’s office for 19 years and was in the patrol unit, resigned before an internal investigation into the matter concluded, said sheriff’s Sgt. Jerry Brewer.
“I continue to stand firm on my position concerning alcohol related incidents,” Sheriff Ed McMahon stated in a press release.
First Sgt. Troy Pope of the highway patrol’s Wilmington office said Snow’s Cut Bridge was one of several checkpoints conducted between Thursday and Sunday, in which 85 drivers were charged with drunk driving. The checkpoints were part of a targeted enforcement campaign dubbed Operation Bad Company.
Booze It....and drive,.....you deserve to be caught!!!
