LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- Leland is the fastest growing town in North Carolina, and Saturday, residents celebrated the founders.
Hundreds came out for Founders Day Saturday. The Town of Leland was incorporated into Brunswick County in 1989. Mayor Walter Futch says Leland is a young town with a lot to offer, but he believes the people are what make it great.
"It's a very welcoming group of people,” Mayor Futch said. “There are so many amenities in the different neighborhoods. There's all levels, and there are people who have lived here for their whole lives and there are new people who have just moved in and want to move in."
Futch said the town is focused on preserving green space and also plans to build a new town hall and police station.
