Renamed health clinic still facing problems

READ MORE: Renamed health clinic still facing problems
WILMINGTON -- A Wilmington health clinic plagued by problems has a new name. But the problems have not gone away. We got a call Friday from a patient who said she went to the Cape Fear Center for Medical Arts, formerly Atlantic Health Clinic. She said she was denied proper medical care because there was not a licensed doctor on the premises. She says she was seen by the clinic's administrator Tamala Creasy. She claims she couldn't get the medication she needed, because there was no doctor or physician's assistant available. This is just the latest in a series of problems for the clinic. The administrator who allegedly saw the patient, Tamala Creasy, is facing criminal charges of interfering with emergency communication. Creasey is also accused of embezzling money that should have gone towards child support payments of the clinic's former doctor. Tammy's daughter Emily said the clinic stopped seeing patients Friday afternoon, because the doctor wasn't able to get there. She said there were physicians assistants and nurse practitioners on site and the only drugs they were not able to prescribe were narcotics. The law says clinics like Cape Fear Center for Medical Arts can operate without a doctor on site if PAs and nurse practitioners are there and a doctor is accessible.
