LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- Leland Mayor Walter Futch joins a growing list of politicians who apparently don't want to answer tough questions and then cancels interview appointments.
Last night after the town council meeting, Futch agreed to come to the TV station today to do a live interview at 5:30 p.m. However he called this morning saying he didn't like the story we aired last night and canceled the interview.
During our interview Thursday night, Futch admitted he was "out of touch" on issues like a former Leland police officer being shot in the groin 12 or more times and Leland Police Chief Tim Jayne punching another officer. He said his only job was to set policy, even though he's an elected official, the "face" of the town and ultimately part of a group who manages the town manager.
He told us this morning that he didn't say he was "out of touch." We then offered to send him the video. He said it didn't matter, because he wasn't coming for the interview.
