Kohls, hospital hold Back to School Safety Extravaganza

READ MORE:
WILMINGTON -- For many younger students, school starts in just a few days as well. That's why so many parents are making sure their children are prepared and safe. New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Kohls Department stores presented a "Back to School Safety Extravaganza" Saturday. The event was held in the parking lot of the Kohls in Wilmington. Several organizations were involved in the event, from New Hanover Regional EMS to local police and fire departments. Families were able to learn about stranger danger, alcohol awareness and prevention, gangs in schools and much more. Injury Prevention Coordinator Tina Poole said, "We have internet safety, back pack safety and they're also getting helmets so we're hoping that they go home wear their helmets and that they're safe when they go to school." Since 2001 the "Kohl's cares for kids program" has raised more than $85 million to support children's health and educational opportunities.
