Mid season report on Mideastern Conference

READ MORE: Mid season report card on Mideastern Conference

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- Hoggard football coach Scott Braswell is the dean of head coaches in New Hanover County. "I've been here for 15 years. This is the best the conference has been top to bottom in my 15 years, Braswell said. Hoggard currently sports a 4-0 record. The Vikings have eight Mideastern Conference championships over the last nine years. "You have Ashley, a vastly improved team that's improving each week and I think the other five teams are all legitimate conference contenders and perhaps state contenders coming out of the east."

Laney head coach Greg Ditz hasn’t coached in Wilmington as long as Braswell, but Ditz tends to agree with Hoggard’s head coach "I would say the conference is building up to where everybody thought it would be when it was first formed with the new divisions( after re-alignment). I would say it's not just the Wilmington teams though. I think New Bern and Greenville Rose can definitely play."

New Bern and Rose will play each other twice this season. New Bern bears won the first encounter 44-41. They’ll meet again in the regular season finale. The October contest will be considered a conference game. The September encounter will not.

Current conference standings are listed below for the six team Mideastern Conference

Laney 5-0
Hoggard 4-0
New Bern 4-1
New Hanover 3-1
Rose 3-2
Ashley 2-3

New Hanover will host Pinecrest on Friday. Hoggard will host the Q Foundation. Ashley, Laney, New Bern and Rose all have Friday off.
