WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- We're finding out more about two separate incidents in the past couple months in Wilmington that may have gang connections.

Back in May, a man was shot and killed in the parking lot of Club 609 on Market Street. About a month later, Al'quon Flowers went missing. Tonight, we've learned the two crimes have a family tie.

A source close to the family says Garry Orlando Hines, who was arrested Saturday for the murder of Cornelius Tremayne Blanks, is the brother of Flowers. Flowers went missing back in July, just two months after Blanks was killed outside of Club 609.

We spoke with the father of Flowers and Hines soon after Flowers went missing. He said he thinks Flowers got caught up in his brothers' mess.

"He's a follower, but as far as him being in a gang, you know, he just followed his brothers," the elder Garry Hines said in July. "They're his brothers."

Flowers disappeared from Red Cross Street July 19. The elder Hines told us then that he thinks his kids were caught up in the wrong crowd.

"I do believe that this stemmed from another incident. I do believe that," he said. "You are not just going to come up, take a kid into your car, take him over the bridge and then turn him over to somebody else. It just don't happen. Not in Wilmington."

With one brother behind bars and the other still missing, the family of Flowers and Hines were too upset to speak with us Monday on camera.

Their father told us in July that his sons were involved in gang activity. The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Gang Unit says the tattoos on the younger Hines's forehead and cheek are gang symbols. They say they believe the "B" stands for the "Bloods" gang. They also say the three tear drop tattoos represent two different things. The two darkened teardrops tend to represent people who have died because of you. The light tear drop represents mourning the loss of someone.

Hines is in the New Hanover County Jail without bond charged with first-degree murder.

Flowers is still missing, but the investigation continues. If you have any information on where he may be, call Wilmington Police at (910) 343-3600.
