Shelter resident rescues kitten from pipe

READ MORE:

LEXINGTON, NC (AP) -- A kitten is safe and living in a new home, thanks to a resident at a homeless shelter in Davidson County.

The Dispatch of Lexington reported that residents of the Crisis Ministry of Davidson County homeless shelter heard the kitten for several days. All efforts to retrieve it from the storm drainage pipe had failed.

Shelter resident Cole McCassland tried a couple of times by shimmying through the pipe. Just when he thought he might have the kitten, it ran further into the pipe. But McCassland's efforts paid off Friday when he surfaced with the kitten, who's about 8 weeks old. The kitten is now living with Crisis Ministry employee Britnie Daugherty, who brings him to work.

She let McCassland choose the kitten's name, Lucky.
