GREENSBORO, NC (AP) -- The president of the University of North Carolina system will highlight his goals for the 17 campuses when he formally takes office.
Tom Ross will take his oath Thursday at NC A&T State University in his hometown of Greensboro. He's being sworn in nine months after he began the job.
Ross took the helm of the UNC system in January. By summer, lawmakers had cut state funding for the 17 campuses by $414 million, an overall reduction of almost 16 percent. UNC-Chapel Hill took the biggest cuts, at almost 18 percent.
Ross has said it's the university system's duty to provide quality education, no matter the economic situation.
