Refugees charter Baptist church in New Bern

NEW BERN, NC (AP) -- Refugees from Myanmar have founded a new Baptist Church in New Bern and hope to have a building in which to worship within two years.

The Sun Journal of New Bern reported that the Karen Baptist Church of New Bern was chartered Sunday afternoon by refugees who fled military oppression and torture in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.

The charter service culminated about three years under the guidance of their mentor church, Temple Baptist.

The new church has about 350 members.
