Wilmington Railroad Museum's officially sets record

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- It's official. Wilmington is now the home of a new Guinness World Record.

The Wilmington Railroad Museum recently got the news that it broke the world record for longest model train at 925 feet.

Back in April a group of model railroaders and volunteers got together to break the record previously held by a town in Germany.

"I think for the museum it's a great recognition. It's sort of a feather in the cap," museum director Mark Koenig said. "It gives another chance to blow our own horn sort of speak. I think for the city it's a way to say OK, we have a world record holding organization here in Wilmington."

The new record and those who helped break it, are expected to be recognized at the next city council meeting.
