WILMINGTON -- The Winter Park Fire Department continues to give back to the community even after closing its doors. This time it's in the form of a donation to Cape Fear Community College. The fire department shut down in 2005. It's given its remaining $114,000 to the school. The check was presented Tuesday morning. The money will be used to purchase new equipment for the new public safety training facility. CFCC President Eric McKeithan said, "We can say that the Winter Park Volunteer Fire Department in addition to its long and storied history is assuring the quality of training for ongoing future generations." The public safety training center will provide state-of-the-art training for the community's firefighters, law enforcement and rescue personnel. The project is expected to be completed by spring of 2008.
