WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The lives of loved ones were celebrated during a special remembrance ceremony this Saturday at a Wilmington hospice center. The event occurs twice a year at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, honoring those who died through living tribute tiles, each engraved with the name of a deceased loved one. So far, nearly 600 tribute tiles have been placed around a fountain in the center's garden. “Having a tile with a loved ones name on it just keeps them alive for you,” said Sandy Spiers, who has tile for her father. “It's a place to go and visit and just doing things like this, my father's been dead for 15 years but I try and do things like this because it keeps him alive.” The tribute tiles started 13 years ago and more than 300 people come to every ceremony.
