RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- More than 1 million people visited the North Carolina State Fair, for the second year in a row.
The fair said Monday that attendance for the 2011 edition of the fair totaled 1,009,173. That's second only to last year's 1,091,887.
State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler says he's pleased with the attendance figures, given the economy.
Vendors say many people attending the fair cut back on how much they spent.
One Raleigh man, Michael Click, confirmed the smaller spending. Click told the News & Observer of Raleigh he spent $300 for his family to visit the fair last year. Click says this year's budget was $100.
