RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- No one redeemed a winning ticket in the North Carolina Education Lottery worth $1 million.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the ticket expired Monday afternoon.
Lottery officials say someone bought the winning ticket at a convenience store in Raleigh on April 27 that matched five white balls in the Powerball drawing. The odds of doing that are more than 1 in 5 million.
Lottery officials had sent notices about the unclaimed prize to the media and also posted the information on their website.
Half of the unclaimed money goes to the state's education fund, the other half goes back into the prize pool for other games.
