"What field will not earn money with more residents in New Hanover County?"
Who wants MORE people besides the real estate developers and weasel salesmen? Wilmington's charm cames NOT from being Myrtle Beach but from being a quaint community of southern history. The way I see it is that this movie is being shot on a New York company's studio, using out of state equipment, being built with mega-corporate materials, staffed by union labor. Other than an increase in nationally owned hotel chains, nationally owned car rental companies, and more business in bars what benefit does this really have for our area? McDonalds contributes more to our economy than Hollyweird does.
And BTW, where do the projected numbers come from? The guy making over $100,000 per year at the helm of the privately controlled film commission? The owner of the studio? The union? The Governor? What news agency has actually asked for an accounting of these numbers? If Iron Man is hiring 500 people, who are those people? What about non-union workers? So yeah Im sure you real estate folks are all excited that you might sell a house or two to some Hollyweird type but at what expense? Who is going to give me a dollar? I mean it's not like they are going to be paying taxes.
