Your excuse for not welcoming this economic boost to our region is because you say... They will use a New York Studio, Out of State equipment, Mega-Corporate products, and Staffed by union labor. Let me clarify something for you... EUE Screen Gems may be headquartered in NYC but the Studio in Wilmington, NC is a NC company which pays taxes in NC... On the issue of Out of State equipment: The movie will only receive tax breaks for the goods they purchase in the state of NC.. enough said... The sets will more than likely be built with local companies products such as E.F. Godwin. They tend to be more supportive, and flexible with getting orders out with the crucial schedule we normally deal with in the film industry. You can't always depend on the Big Box Stores... Lastly, for union labor: The last I checked we live in a right to work state if you feel confident you can walk on a film job and perform the duties of a certain position be my guest. The "Union" labor in this community are some of the finest in the industry. It takes years of experience to perform at a high level in this industry. The Union provides training, and support to those wanting to learn the right, efficient, safe manner we work. Since we are a right to work state go ahead and send your resume in..
As for the projected figures as to how much spending will be going on here... These are simply projections it could be a little more or a little less. But the NC treasury dept. along with the film commission probably worked out the projected spending that will take place. And yes every time they purchase something they pay taxes. It's not until the production has completed that the treasury dept. preforms an audit, and they get the tax rebate for the goods purchased in the state. I get sick and tired of the people who come on these blogs misinformed and lay out nothing but mindless banter about issues they have no correct information about. I bet my paycheck 100% of the people who complain on here about the film incentives has never even read the bill!!!!! Get informed people!! First know what you are complaining about and know the facts before you get on here... this is getting a bit redundant...
ILM Native get with the times!!!
