Unemployment down in Wilmington area in September, still higher than a year ago

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Unemployment dropped in 92 of North Carolina's counties in September, including all five of our counties, according to the Employment Security Commission.

New Hanover County saw the biggest improvement down 0.7 points to 9.5 percent. It's the only county in our area below the state unemployment rate of 10 percent and the Wilmington metropolitan rate of 10.2 percent. Unemployment in each of our five counties in September was still higher than a year earlier.
